The story takes place in the world where both science and magic has advanced. Arkham City is a metropolises prospered by highly advanced magic. However it is threatened by a criminal syndicate Black Lodge. They set the Master Telion, who is the greatest wizard as well as the worst criminal, up as the leader, and they give free reign to their desire to rampage the city. Hado Family Group, the guardian of the city, makes a robot to beat Black Lodge. It is Demonbane.
Now, the battle between Demonbane and Mater Telion`s Black Lodge starts.
This anime’s based on a game (or games?) and already has an OVA. I just saw the promo and even if it was short, the animation seemed quite good. The anime airs in one month (15/05) and has 12 eps, so here’s the promo and the OVA to watch:
I liked the first 2 eps. Sure, its hot-blooded as hell and has alot of cliches, but i like both the character and the mecha design, so i think i can watch the remaining 10 episodes without problem. And the OVA is just a random story, its not bad, but its not required to watch it to understand the TV series better.
I also liked the first two episodes. The first thing that caught my eye was the animation and character designs, which are gorgeous (although I question the protagonist’s fashion sense) The production quality is top-notch, and everything is rendered in great detail. And the description wasn’t kidding: it’s got a lot of comedy, aside from a few serious moments. Over-the-top crazy scientist villains, super robots, slapstick humor . . it’s all here. The magic aspect is kind of interesting, too (I’m a sucker for magic in shows).
The only big problem I had was with the mecha designs, especially the Demonbane. It’s big, clunky, cumbersome, and just looks flat-out ugly. Of course, it’s hard for the Demonbane to look cool in the hands of an unexperienced pilot, so I’ll wait a few more episodes to form a solid opinion on it. But yeah, right now I feel like the show would be better without the mechs. A detective with a big gun and lavender-haired loli kicking ass on the streets (see picture above) sounds much better.
After poking around the forums, I didn’t see any mention of them dropping the series, so I assume more releases will come in time. As for when, it’s anybody guess.
