just came up with a bright idea, because l maybe moving soon lm going to have to think about creating a new DSL or Cable account where ever l move to, not sure if Cable will be avalible where ever l go however l thought asking the members here may give me ideas of other ISP’s to look at and get a better idea of their service without having to rely on reviewing places that carry alot of flames etc…
anywho what lm looking for is ideas on UK internet ISP’s that:
Provide a good Value for money service (under 40 in fact 37 lm trying to make the limit since NTL do a 10meg cable service for that with no data cap)
NO LIMITATIONS (l don’t deal well with bandwidth limits lol)
it has to be a good service, the shitty one lm getting now has no customer service and its doing my brain in dealing with the peak time speed…
l may have said it in part above, but NO FAIR USAGE policy like my current Tiscali based one which limits your speed on peak times if your a heavy user such as myself its annoying to deal with…

they were good..hmm… they’re like tiscali, they were very quiet when we joined back in sep '05 (last year) steadily this year they’re placing limitations on stuff as they begin to gain popularity, i think there is a bandwidth limit (or they just caught us totally raping their bandwidth for the 1st 3 months we joined and stopped us) :heh:
-but check ok, they have a good self maintence for your account, u can check what isp’s are using ur account, (we found some leeching bastards taking our wireless even tho it has a key) then u can block it :snicker:
u can see a graph of the usage per month,
and do the usual account stuff.
so plus net aren’t too bad.
next is bulldog, they offer 8-16mb and decent prices, but we were told to avoid them, their service isn’t that great, if something goes wrong you’ll feel it.
but have a look just in case.

will have to contact their support teamm and find out whether its under a LLU basis, altho must exchanges are getting unblundled ld need to find out definately and make sure there arnt any caps or l’ll be screaming when l hit one and end up paying the price =_=, great looking service if l do say so myself especially the upload speeds and do you get 8Meg alot of the time?
but lm hopeing l can get NTL Cable which means 10Meg for £37 but l’ll have to skimp if l do however l still neet to make sure l can get it in the area lm prolly moving too, as its virtually dead cert from what l herd yesterday
I called my phone company and other places… but got tired of it… so decided to ask here to see if i can also get some more feedback… since i got tired of calling around :heh:
problem: I am able to connect to the interent… but when somebody calls my phoneline or if somebody calls out using my phone line… i get disconnected from the net
I have put filters on all the phones that uses the same phone line except for the from the dsl modem from my computer to the phone jack …which is part of the setup…
I think their may be something wrong with my PPPoE settings… but i do not know how to re-configure it myself since i can’t find the settings :heh:

how far is the splitter/filter from your computer… its possible due to distance this could be causeing a problem, as l experianced something simular…
l have like 20Meture cable going up to my room where my modem is and before the splitter was downstairs however now l have the splitter/filter less than a meture away from my modem.. l do have to have another downstairs but thats after the extention Tconnection as otherwise ld have alot of noise (crackleing on my phone).
in any case a good place to ask other than here would be www.ispreview.co.uk regardless of if you have a UK connection or not l think they maybe able to help somewhat.. maybe www.adslguide.org maybe of some help too but lm not sure if they have a forum, also the settings you got from your ISP make sure they are correct such as the DNS servers and the VPI/VCI settings as long as those are correct and none of the other ideas here.. or if you get your question answered at ispreview forum then id suggest doing one of two things
phone your phone company if your UK based BT (or at least thats the case for me) who knows this maybe a fault on the line maybe even within the house then they would be able to fix it..
or
your ISP this would be a second port of call since l would have thaught to clear up any issues would be better to speak to your phone company as your ISP can only do remote settings which are network related.. where as a phone company has access to the exchange (which includes the DSLAM’s [digitial subscriber line access modules] etc) which makes much more sence to me in them been the first port of call.
i forgot to include the fact that when i do get disconnected… it takes a while for me to get back on cuz sometimes it says “phone line is busy” …so that message pops up every now and then when trying to re-connect manually…
i have to turn on another phone… turn it off… and then hit the connect button as fast as i can to reconnect XD

my download speed are fine…
without the router… everything goes well and it goes up to 100 kb/s or something
as with the router on… reduces by half and sometimes can’t connect to others
but with router or not… i still get disconnected cuz of a phone call…
can the reason be because i have too many electronics in my room :nani:
shouldnt be many el;ectronics… l have 8 systems running in my room and a TV when l need it and prolly a few other things too… and l have no probs that arnt ISP end
also… static… lots of it on the phone…
i have a wireless phone in the living room… talking to somebody and go to my room… static goes crazy…
somebody told me that maybe something isn’t filtered correctly… maybe my computer is giving off something that could disrupt or interfere with the dsl modem… he told me to connect to the demarc phoneline… but i’m guessing that’s in the basement… too much of a hassle to do …since everything is upstairs…
so… i’m guessing it may be something in my room cuz of the static on the phone when i’m in there… anywhere else in the house is fine… but the closer you get to my room… the higher the static is on the phone
my dsl modem is right under my feet as i type this up… so it’s not too far from the tower or router at all…
Also, if you’re phone is a 800 MHz variety, I’d suggest you think about upgrading to a 2.4 or 5.8 GHz - they’re much more tolerant of interference. I used to get static on my 800 MHz set, and when I upgraded to 5.8, I haven’t heard static once.
I’ve managed to come back on the net for a while… after messing around with some stuff.
since this title had “dsl” i’ll just post it here…
problem i’m having is this constant disconnection. I used to be disconnected if somebody interupts my house phone number… by somebody calling in or dialing out from our phone… quite odd, but i’ve been quite patient with it…
now after some dude came from sbc to fix the phone downstairs *i live in a duplex fyi* … I can’t access the internet without constantly being disconnected… I’ve tried to re-install sbc yahoo dsl… but it can’t configue the PPPoE … so then I went to the control panel > some other stuff… and restarted the PPPoE… and then… It restarted my connection, and i’m able to come back online… for like 10 seconds and then I get disconnected and problem starts over again… until i manually stop and restart the PPPoE…
Also, when i try to repair the local connection… it can’t clear the ARP cache or something… so i’ve manually cleared it up I believe… through some site’s recommendation and f.a.q. but it fails still…
l assume chazro is US based, lve heard that its quite normal over in the states to be using PPPoE, if you were UK based tho l could pass you a great link which deals with ISPs etc and well l literally made front page news there XD stil waiting on my transfer to another provider tho (had MAC[migration code] troubles which should be rectified now)
Sounds like either your modem is whacked or the line has problems. I would suggest calling your ISP and having them do a line test and if you can go to http://www.dslreports.com/tools and doing the “Line Quality test” and “Smokeping”
Out here in the US DSL is mainly PPoE and only some use DHCP; Verizon for example uses PPoE and even uses it on FiOS except in ex-GTE territories where they use DHCP and that’s where I am ; they’re beginning to move FiOS to DHCP as PPoE is a drag to manage
